About This Package
Wayanad, meaning “Land of Paddy Fields” in Malayalam, is a lush green district perched on the northern edge of the Western Ghats. This package offers an immersive experience of Wayanad’s ancient tribal heritage, dense Nilambur teak forests, and thrilling wildlife encounters.
Trek through Chembra Peak — home to a heart-shaped lake near its summit — explore the Edakkal Caves with 7,000-year-old Neolithic rock art, and jeep safari through Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in search of wild elephants, leopards, and sambar deer. Overnight stays in eco-lodges and tree houses complete the adventure.
Day-wise Itinerary
Arrive at Kalpetta. Visit Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by dense forest with paddleboat rides. Explore the Wayanad Heritage Museum for insight into the tribal history of the Kurichiya and Paniya communities. Check into your treehouse eco-lodge.
Early morning guided trek to Chembra Peak (2,100 m). En route witness the famous heart-shaped lake and sweeping Ghats views. The 4-hour trek winds through shola forests and grasslands. Afternoon rest and visit to Banasura Sagar Dam — India's largest earthen dam.
Morning jeep ride to Edakkal Caves housing Neolithic petroglyphs dating back 5,000 years. Afternoon visit to Soochipara (Sentinel Rock) Waterfalls — a stunning three-tiered waterfall perfect for a refreshing dip. Evening tribal cultural performance at resort.
Dawn jeep safari through Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (Muthanga range) — spot wild elephants, spotted deer, bison, and if lucky, leopards. Breakfast at resort. Visit Thirunelli Temple, one of Kerala's most ancient temples, on the way back. Afternoon departure.
