A visit to the 2,000-year-old Janardhanaswamy Temple perched above the sea at Varkala is a highlight not to be missed.
Day-wise Itinerary
Arrive at Thiruvananthapuram. Morning city tour: Padmanabhaswamy Temple (one of India's richest temples), Napier Museum, and Kanakakunnu Palace. Afternoon check-in at Kovalam beach resort. Evening at leisure on the iconic crescent beach. Freshly grilled barracuda dinner at a beachside restaurant.
Morning sunrise yoga on the beach. Post-breakfast Abhyanga full-body Ayurvedic oil massage at a certified Ayurveda centre. Afternoon swimming at Hawa Beach. Sunset boat ride to the historic Vizhinjam Rock Cave Temple. Evening at Lighthouse Beach promenade.
Drive to Varkala (45 km). Visit the sacred Janardhanaswamy Temple. Stroll along the clifftop promenade with its hippie cafés and stunning sea views. Dip in the natural spring water at Varkala Main Beach (believed to have medicinal properties). Sunset from Black Beach viewpoint.
Morning boat ride to Poovar Island where the Neyyar River meets the Arabian Sea — a rare estuary lined with mangroves and golden sand. Optional Golden Sand Beach visit. Afternoon return to Thiruvananthapuram for departure.
